I keep track of my time using the .LOG function of Notepad, and analyze the time on a regular basis. Even within a client project, I track how much time is spent working on the client problem and how much time is spent in emails/phone conferences.
I see that I spend on average one hour a day on emails, measured across a year, any month. That may not sound like a lot, but it is a significant chunk of time.
I am forced to ask "What if I spent an extra hour each day making sales calls by phone?".
Tracking "admin finance" lets me see that I would be better off assigning a half-day each month to regular tasks rather than splitting my days into micro-fragments.
